What is Coaching and how can it help me?

Coaching and its benefits

What is Coaching?

Perhaps you are struggling to realise your potential or you are looking for support and guidance to get you through a difficult situation or maybe looking to develop greater self confidence or life satisfaction. Coaching could be what you are looking for. There is nothing more powerful than having someone working alongside you to help you reach your goals.

Coaching has been defined as:

“…the philosophy of encouraging the coachees’ learning, resourcefulness and self-insight in a non-directive, collaborative way to enhance their goal striving and achievement.’ (O’Riordan & Palmer, 2021)

Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them – a facilitation approach.” (Whitmore, 1992, based on Gallwey – a tennis expert)

Coaching has been proven to help individuals with a diverse range of objectives and ambitions. In fact, research by the world-leading International Coaching Federation (ICF) found that more than 80% of people who had coaching had greater self-confidence as a result, whilst 70% reported more effective communications, relationships, and better work performance.

It is often, practical, encourages self-insight, it is collaborative, usually, short-term, focused on issues in the present and future, result focused, it is a conversation – coaching models provide a map to achieve your goals, it is enabling and empowering

How could a life Coach help me?

  • It can help you achieve your goals
  • Make you realise what you're capable of
  • focus your attention on your strengths
  • build your self confidence and self esteem
  • gain clarity and see a way forward
  • support solution finding
  • improve and develop your relationships
  • challenge automatic negative thoughts l(ANT's)
  • develop your communication skills

A life Coach can help you see things in new way. They will ask you questions or share insights that will help you explore new, better ways of thinking about yourself, your situation, and the world around you. A life coach will help you move on and get to where you want to be in a shorter time span and can be the cheerleader you need.  Self-doubt and limiting beliefs can prevent anyone from achieving what they’re capable of. A coach can work with you to change your mindset and overcome self-sabotaging thoughts that may be holding you back.  Working with a coach is all about progress, whether internally or externally.
