What is involved in an Individual Educational Psychology Assessment?
To fully understand a child’s strengths and needs, an initial consultation will be held with parents/carers, staff and the child or young person. A school-based observation may be held if relevant.
Children and young people will be invited to work individually (with support of known adults if they prefer) to complete a range of assessments which can take between one to three hours with breaks. The nature of individual work will vary according to the needs identified and the age of the child or young person. This could include the use of standardised assessments for cognitive ability, attainment and emotional well-being or dynamic approaches as required. For young children, a child friendly play-based assessment is often most appropriate. An assessment can be completed within school or nursery (with permission from staff) or at home. Following assessment, a full report will be provided.
What is Psychoeducation?
Psychoeducation involves learning about and understanding mental health and wellbeing. It’s similar to physical education, where you learn about how your body works, how to look after it and the impacts of different strains or stressors - but instead you apply this to the mind.
